Brief Life Story:
I grew up in Applegate, Oregon along the Applegate river. I was a homeschooled farm kid with three brothers &the run of the valley. Life was good, & my brave, hard-working, back-to-the-land young parents gave us a life of raw beauty & work. Lots of music & art, & no t.v. Nature was & is alive to me, & full of God's miraculous magical beings.
We moved to the theater & arts town of Ashland, Oregon when I was 15. Soon after I met NYC master sculptor A. Bruce Hoheb. I studied drawing, sculpture, & anatomy with him after school and in the summers over the course of the next 8 years until his death.
I was able to study art in France, England, & Greece with Parsons School of Design & independently. Multiple scholarships in art, writing, & scholastic ability paid for my first year of college at the University of Oregon. I graduated with a BA in Fine Arts & Theater Costuming, with honors.
After college I married & divorced, and then took off to explore the world a bit. I call this period of time my "walk-about". By then I was studying Tanran Reiki from master William Bagley, and I went out to try my hand at teaching energy healing. My classes paid for my trip, and were scheduled at Heartwood Healing Institute and in private homes. I ended up in Ajijic, Mexico, where I lived in a sculptor's studio and taught drawing & Reiki to retired expatriates.
During the "walk-about" years, my friend & I had the idea to set up a henna body art booth at the Saturday Market in Portland. That took off thanks to Madonna's video, & the next six summers were profitable, & excellent under-pressure training for an artist. I also did some portrait work between college and 9-11.
During the time after the divorce, my spirituality had been growing deeper in my being & my awareness, especially through the Reiki work. When September 11, 2001 happened, my serious artist was re-awakened in a major way. The resulting painting is entitled "Let There be Peace in Our Hearts". The vision I received of that massive event changed my life forever, & called upon all the inner resources & training I had. My artwork was put in service to the new energies pouring into me over the next several years, until Mother Earth called me in 2003/04. Her painting, "Mother Maui", also changed my life profoundly. So much so, that I have only done small pieces since then, as I have taken the time to integrate the experiences I had.
I have branched out into some lighter things since then, such as the dolls & learning graphic design (I'm working to become more modern in my skills). What is calling me now is to write about my experiences, integrated with my paintings & other artwork in order to share with others the extraordinary experiences I have had , both as a person & an artist. Many paintings & drawings are calling me to be birthed, as well as a return to sculpture.
Throughout all this time, I have held multiple types of employment to take care of things (most of those years choosing to go without a home & focus on painting in other people's barns, shacks, etc. ) My choice now is to have both home/studio AND do my artwork. How this will happen is an emerging dance, and I am asking for help. I am applying for grants, putting out this new website, & offering all that I have to share in a new way. My sincere hope is that something I have to share will affect your life in a beautiful way, and that you will be inspired to pursue your own highest self.
